Opening Day Ceremonies were held on Saturday, March 8th at South Weddington Park. Jay Johnstone (above, center) captivated players and adults alike with stories of his baseball career from West Covina Little League to hitting a game winning home run in the World Series. He also emphasized the importance of volunteerism, manners and hard work. Johnstone threw out the season’s ceremonial first pitch to 11 year old JT Thomas.

Councilman Tom LaBonge also greeted the crowd, thanking all of the volunteers that make our program possible.

Carrying on a long-standing tradition, Shetland player Joe Cucci threw a ceremonial pitch to 14 year old Pony player Michael Knopf.

A terrific bbq lunch was served and many Toluca Baseball families enjoyed a beautiful day in the park.

Water Watch

Toluca Baseball has begun a serious effort to increase the efficiency of the irrigation systems on all of the baseball fields. The irrigation controllers are being updated, watering times minimized and sprinkler heads are being adjusted.
